Dermal Fillers:
Frequently asked questions
Q: Will dermal fillers hurt?
A: There can be a little discomfort, but this is minimised by the use of topical anaesthetic or, in the case of lip enhancement, a local anaesthetic.
Q: How long before I see the result of a dermal filler treatment?
A: You'll see the difference immediately. However, the best results are seen at about four to six weeks.
Q: How will I look after the dermal filler treatment?
A: There can be a little redness and swelling immediately afterwards, but this will usually settle down after a couple of days. After lip enhancement it may last a little longer, but usually less than a week.
Q: Are there many side effects of dermal filler treatments?
A: Apart from some redness and a little swelling immediately after treatment the only real side effect is slight bruising which can occur in some cases. Any bruising would generally last a few days.
Q: How long will the dermal filler treatment take?
A: Consultation and treatment will take about half an hour.
Q: Do I need tests to see if I'm suitable for dermal filler treatment?
A: No. Because the active components are naturally present in the body. The fillers are extremely safe to use.
Q: What can't I do after the dermal filler treatment?
A: You should wait a few days before having a facial or similar treatment and it's best to avoid strong sunlight for a few days too. Otherwise, just carry on as normal.
Q: How long will the dermal filler treatment last?
A: For most people the treatment lasts approximately six months. To maintain optimum results it is advised to have treatment every six months.
Q: Can I top it up again?
A: Absolutely, Most patients make an appointment to see us again when they feel the effects are beginning to wear off, which is generally between six to seven months later.
Q: If I don't repeat the dermal filler treatment how will I look?
A: Because these fillers are a naturally occurring substance, the body slowly breaks them down. If you decide not to repeat the treatment your face will return to the way it looked before the treatment.
Q: Who can have the dermal filler treatment?
A: Almost everyone, except women who are pregnant or breast-feeding.
Q: Can it be used with Botox®
A: In many cases the best possible result occurs when fillers are used with complementary treatment such as Botox®.
